How Do Blowjobs Increase Sexual Arousal?

Oral sex is an intimate, playful and sexual activity that involves stimulating your partner’s genitals with your mouth and tongue. It can feel great when done sensually and with lube.

Start by using lube on your partner’s shaft, balls and perineum. Then, lick and stroke them to increase pleasure for both of you.

1. Physical stimulation

A man’s pleasure during oral sex is often heightened by his own sense of physical stimulation. This can be achieved by touching, licking and kissing the anal area. It’s also possible to use a variety of toys to play with the anal area. While the arousal of oral sex can be intense, it’s important for both parties to communicate to ensure that everyone is fully satisfied and comfortable with their level of involvement.

Using a slippery, lubricated tongue can increase the pleasure of giving and receiving a blowjob. However, it’s important to avoid rubbing the lips over the area because this can cause irritation. It’s also important to be aware of your teeth and not bump the penis with them.

Jessica Drake, sex educator and founder of the Guide to Wicked Sex, recommends starting off by worshipping the head of the penis with your hands. She suggests stroking it, manipulating the anal area with your fingertips, cupping it and squeezing it to increase blood flow and create suction. It’s also possible to massage the perineum ‘gooch’, stroke the balls and touch the lower part of the shaft of the penis to build anticipation.

2. Arousal from the sight

Sexual arousal is a combination of cognitive and physical responses that include physiological activation of the genitals, erection of the nipples or vaginal sex glands, swelling of the testicles and pupil dilation. It can be caused by external or internal arousal stimuli, including visual stimulation such as appraising a picture or touching and being touched. Getting or giving blowjobs can increase sexual arousal from the sight of them because there’s something about a sexy penis that’s just so alluring. In fact, Play notes that some folx prefer a blowjob to penetrative sex. However, it’s important to discuss what you want beforehand so that both parties feel comfortable.

3. Arousal from the smell

Researchers have long been fascinated by human attraction, and a lot of it comes down to pheromones—the chemical signals that are released when we’re in various states of being. For instance, we’ve been known to communicate feelings of fear or sadness through pheromones. Now, a new study published in February in Archives of Sexual Behavior suggests that we can also communicate sexiness through scent, too.

Psychologist Arnaud Wisman and his team from the University of Kent asked men to rate odor samples swabbed from females during different states of sexual arousal. Their conclusion: Men can smell when a woman is turned on, and they like it.

In three different experiments, the women cycled for three minutes to work up a sweat, then were seated in front of a 17-inch computer screen and watched a video (in the neutral condition they viewed a documentary on bridge building; in the sexual arousal condition, they viewed 20 min of the erotic cult film 9 Songs). After each video, the participants had their axillary sweat swabbed. Then, the men evaluated the odors of each sweat sample on a scale of one to seven (one = not at all, seven = very much).

Results showed that in Experiment 1, men rated the scent samples from the women who were sexually aroused as more attractive than the ones from the neutral condition. In addition, men rated the sexual scents as more intense and pleasant than the neutral scents.

4. Arousal from the taste

While a blowjob is technically considered a sex act, and it can feel like a lot of fun, it is not a sexual penetration. Unlike sexual penetration, a blowjob is a one-way street that involves only the giving and receiving of semen.

If you are the giver, it is a good idea to use a lubricant that can be tasted as well as felt. “A flavored lube can be an extra sensory experience for you and your partner, so be sure to try different flavors,” Play says.

The sense of smell and taste are strong aphrodisiacs for both men and women. Research has shown that smelling foods that are associated with pleasure — such as licorice or cucumber — can stimulate the nervous system and increase sexual arousal.

The taste of the giver’s sperm in your mouth can be very hot, so don’t be afraid to experiment with this sensation. Aside from making the experience more sexual, it also helps you stay present and embodied in the moment. The more you savor sensation and allow yourself to follow where it leads, the deeper your pleasure can become.

5. Arousal from the touch

The senses of touch, sight and smell all play a role in sexual arousal. In addition, erotic stimuli can trigger thoughts and memories that lead to desire.

Researchers have found that different body parts evoke different kinds of pleasure when touched. Arousal from touch can increase with the use of a lubricant, as well. The climax of sexual response usually occurs when one feels the sensation of orgasm.

For example, the belly button and lower stomach are a highly sensitive erogenous zone for many females. They are packed with nerves and are especially responsive to nibbles, licks and stroking. Licking and stroking the inner thighs is also very exciting, as is exploring the crotch with fingers or mouth.

Arousal from touch may be a great way to start foreplay, but it is important not to overdo it. Too much touching can cause pain, or even discomfort. In some cases, it is also necessary to use a lubricant to reduce friction on the vagina. In this case, a good quality, flavored lubricant is recommended. This will help to create a slippery, sensuous texture for increased arousal.
